Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I was involved in Transition Denver from January through June 2009. In August, I moved to Arvada with my new male lab, "Brando" I am a new member of the local transition community here

I am collaborating closely with David Ward in Boulder and David Braden in Golden. My mission is to forge collaborative partnerships between Transition communities across Colorado and other community groupings in the following domains:

1. Grow local/buy local,
2. Ritual process designs for endanged boys in the 10-14 age range who are experiencing alarming rise in suicide
3. Forging deep bondsof service and solidarity between tribal groups and the wider community
4. Faciliating trainings on transformational ritual process for community leaders across Colorado
5. . I am completing an on-line book: IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME: MEN AT THE TURNING POINT OF HISTORY
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
The reality of The Long Emergency, What life will be like in 20 years in the USA?. Issues of concern around food and water What will happen to health care and hospitals which are so heavily dependent on plastic? Will the US political system adapt to the vast acceleration of structural change and dislocation of major social systems?. As an elder, my role in life is to facilitate knowledge transmission to younger generations ----sharing best practices and proven wisdom for building sustainable life at the neighborhood level
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
What I bring is living on the our mother earth for 66 years, making mistakes, getting feedback and changing my thinking and perspective as a result of feedback and truth telling from others. I am still learning the truth that skill sets are valuable only if our way of being and interacting with others is open-heated and roots in mutual benefits. My greatest challenge is to learn depth listening to discover the essence of what each person I encounter truly wants --- and how I can advance fulfillment of that want if asked to do so by the other person. .
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I've been a writer on social justice and progressive causes for more than 35 years. I've written professionally for more than 30 national environmental groups . Along the way, I've learned a few core ideas about building social movements . I believe my experience and learning can be tailored, adapted and applied to the transition movement. I could be wrong. So I hasten to offer my own "cheerful disclaimer".

Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
The key is "one on one: relationship building. Go beyond the event and take a new colleague out for coffee or lunch. Self discovery and transition movement discover. Deeper inquiry. Asking ourselves "what is the question?" and being truly radical and asking for unfiltered feedback "what is missing from my picture?" Finally, we all know what we know and don't know. The zone of breakthrough is "I don't know what I don't know -- and only you can reveal that zone to me.

Dear Forrest,

I don't know if we're ready to do a series on intentional communities yet, but we would like to repost your article on http://transition-times.com with your permission.

I have lived in an intentional community for the past two years, so I can appreciate how much relevant knowledge and wisdom they have to offer to the Transition Movement.

Thanks for all your good work, and let's stay in touch!
