Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I have completed the transition initiative training in Boulder, Colorado and hope to either start an initiative in my suburb of Westminster (10 miles south of Boulder) or assist other steering committees to get the ball rolling in their communities.

I attended the first Transition Town Training in Boulder, Colorado, September 2008.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am interested in Transition because I feel this is the most important undertaking in the history of humanity, and it is so hopeful and positive in the face of such overwhelming crisis (peak oil and climate change). I want to be able to do something positive, from both a personal level and a community level. I also love telling people about Peak Oil!
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I am pursuing a Masters in ecopsychology, so part of what interests me about the Transition movement is the reconnection to community and nature (through permaculture). I'm also a full-time copywriter, so I enjoy writing. I have 20+ years experience with graphic design, and also enjoy blogging.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I can give public talks on Peak Oil or ecopsychology (re-connecting with nature as a form of environmental activism), design printed materials, write blogs, articles or presentations. I can help organize events - although I'm not a professional event planner.

Earth 2100 ABC Special

Believe it or not, people. A 2-hour "what if" special on mainstream network primetime, talking about the consequences of runaway population, resource depletion, peak oil, climate change and more.

Guest interviewees included James Howard Kunstler and Richard Heinberg.

I wish I would have tuned in sooner than more than halfway in, but here are some videos and more info on what this was about:

Reason for Rising Gas Prices

Here's an article on why gas prices are rising despite soft demand and a glut of supply. I'm wondering what you all think of the very last paragraph - an IEA prediction that oil will be $130 a barrel in 2030 and that by then, the price of oil will follow the supply/demand model.

Something Amazing in Broomfield!

This past Monday, April 13th, a group of 10 folks from Transition broke ground on a 1 acre permaculture community garden in Broomfield. The garden is located at the Broomfield Presbyterian Church in Broomfield at 350 Main Street.

The pastor of this church had previously arranged for this acre to be cultivated organically for the benefit of the poor and hungry with the supervision of one of our group members (who is a farmer), but there were no funds this year to pay for a tractor and labor. Not… Continue

Local, Urban Food a Success in Brazil

Belo Horizonte, Brazil is a city that re-localized food production and reduced their infant mortality rate by more than half and benefited more than 40 percent of the city's 2.5 million population. They replaced processed, imported food in school lunches with locally grown food.

This is an excellent example of how re-localizing food production can be a tremendous success and actually does increase resilience and food security.

Six Stages of Awareness - Which One Are You In?

The moment we first heard about peak oil and climate change, we began to go through the "Six Stages of Awareness". These are similar to the stages of grief. You may go through the list and recognize yourself in one of the stages, or recognize your friends and loved ones.

The point is to recognize that you're not alone in how you feel, nor are your feelings arbitrary. These things come in stages, and what you want in a time like this is to see that the last stage is acceptance, and therefore pos… Continue

Margaret,

I sure was hoping we were thinking the same thing...now I'm fairly certain we were! ;o)
I'm glad you took the time to put together that post. It can be difficult sometimes to say what needs to be said without being confrontational. I don't think the "vast majority" who use this site want to see that happen.

Margaret,
I just saw your comment of Jan. 12 on my page. Sorry! I am not in charge of the Inner skills group and had nothing to do with the decision. David Greenwald and Lynette Marie are in charge (at least David). I am not a leader, an initiator, or anything. I can't get my name off there or the whole group might collapse. I talked to Les about it. Have a great weekend, Pam
