How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Just getting started, hoping to write my dissertation on local economies- particularly how actual community design can foster or suppress a local economy and how local currencies effect this.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Community development/ local economies. I believe it is essential to move to a more sustainable lifestyle so that humans and all other living organisms can live happily ever after. . . aw. . .
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
YOGA! And a willingness to try just about anything. I have two years experience in Student Government and am very enthusiastic about cutting through red tape.
I recently Interned with David Wann at Harmony Village learning about subsistence farming and co-housing models.
I also have this fascination with cooking most of my really amazing vegetarian food from all local materials. . . it gets pretty challenging, but its always yummy. Check out some of my Bento Lunches at my website to see what I mean!
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I'm hoping to create communities for a living based off of the transition and permaculture principles. I also have a great deal of energy and hope to lend a helping hand when needed.

I read that book by Cavanaugh and Mander, it's right on. If you're interested, you might want to check out the Blueprint Boulder event coming up next Saturday the 8th. Details on the events page, or you can find it on my page. It's from 9-3 at the city building at Canyon and Broadway. Should be a great place to share your knowledge and ideas with other interested folks!

Hi Kristy-
Thanks for joining Transition Boulder! I'm fascinated by community design and local economies as well, and I'd love some good reading recommendations! I have a neighbor who's trying to get interested people to get involved with one of the city's planning groups. If you'd like to find out some details and share some of your knowledge, please let me know!
Hi Kristy! Welcome to the site and welcome to Transition Boulder. We're glad to have you.
I've always thought that "community design can foster or suppress a local economy." I'd love to see your dissertation wen you're done. Perhaps you could post it to the site. :-)
Have you been following the permaculture financial gig thats just ending today in TN with C A Fitts and Alan Bates... with so much collapsing it will be very imperative that we create new models. Perhaps like the Gifting Economy that Burning Man espouses for a week. Have you seen Eisenstein's article at realitysandwich.com on Money and the Crisis of Civilization or the film Zeitgeist Addendum that focuses on Money. Just saw your post and thought Id send a note along. If you find good books and references let us see them. Have you seen Independent America film. Its the best film that Ive seen that really focuses on the local economy. Go to hopedance and click the calendar and search for localization. ciao, bob

Have you ever wondered if it could be done? Can you create a greenhouse that needs NO supplemental heating year round? – the answer is yes!! This greenhouse design, involving stored water as thermal mass and our bountiful Colorado sun, can be used w…
I can only speak to my own experience. For most of my life I took the lead from my father and his cohorts in developing my worldview. When he died (a personal catastrophe), I took a few years to examine every aspect of my life -- including my values…
Hi Paul,
Sorry for the delayed response. Life got way too busy in December. I'm out of town right now but will be back by January 1st. I'll call you to discuss what we did at the library and to see what we all can cultivate for 2010 in Colorado :)
