A gathering to enjoy "garden talk" over a meal. Let's talk about what we did in 2009 that worked and what didn't. Let's talk about our plans for 2010. This event was specifically set up for the community garden coordinators of the 5 community garden…
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I am the one of the "Initiators" for the Louisville CO USA Transition Initiative.
I completed the 2 day training in Boulder CO mid Sep 2008 with Michael Brownlee and Lynette Marie Hanthorn as trainers.
I am a Certified Trainer of Transitions, having attended the train the trainers in San Francisco mid Dec 2008
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I crafted my "soul story" in May 2007 while camping for a week in Utah's Grand Staircase Escalante wilderness area with 12 other caring souls. My soul story is what I am about in the final phase of my life (I turned 65 on Nov 1 2008):
My Soul Story:
With loving kindness, compassion, joy and freedom,
I transform old and new cultures into life sustaining communities through initiation, collaboration and eldering.
The Great Turning:
In August 2009 I believe that we are in what may be viewed in 100 years as a historic moment - Joanna Macy calls it The Great Turning. Others call it The Long Emergency. The profound effects of global warming, oil decline and economic collapse are a crisis unparalleled in the history of all of civilization.
However, the deep financial crisis facing the United States, the recession we are now in, and the enormous debt that has built up over the past 8 years pale in comparison to the global warming - oil depletion crisis.
At this defining moment in history, The Great Turning, we need leadership, deep moral character, mature adults, and the audacity to act anyway. We must involve all citizens as members of this planet earth in making the turn towards a living and sustainable society.
I believe that the Transition Movement is the most credible and positive force for addressing The Great Turning at the community level.
I also believe the old culture 1st Nation Indigenous Peoples are a crucial part of this transformation. They bring their wisdom, generosity bravery and fortitude and their care of nature and all creatures.
Finally, I believe the easy part is the technology - the wind and solar generators and non-gasoline vehicles. The greatest challenge is the transformation of our values, beliefs and culture into life sustaining communities that care for all and live in harmony with all, including nature and all creatures.
My role in this Turning is enabling initiation into mature adulthood and being an elder to those coming after me. My role is also enabling Internet and face to face collaboration, to include community networking tools and the deepening of face to face relationships. My intention is to carry out my role with loving kindness, compassion, joy and freedom.
Most of my employment has been within high technology companies. Now that I am retired (I call it "refirement") I declare that "I refuse to go gently into the night!"
AHO - All My Relations!
With humility and audacity,
David "Joyous Wolf" Greenwald,
Louisville, Colorado, USA
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I have a Masters in Organization and Community Development from American University. As an OD professional, I am drawn to the Transition Initiatives' application of the emerging approach to change (e.g. Open Space), based on the language and understandings of Quantum Physics and Living Systems see e.g. Margaret Wheatley's Leadership and the New Science book).
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
My taking a leadership role in launching Transition Louisville CO USA is the best way to help grow Transitions. We quickly need visible signs of Transitions in the USA like are already in place in the UK.

I've posted the event on this Transition Coloraodo ning site. Thanks for your offer to post it elsewhere, and I appreciate anything else you want to do help get the word out. I expect it will be of interest to many here. I have a pdf and html flyer, which I've tried uploading with this message, but I'm not sure its working. (I'm new to this site - so still in the learning curve! Let me know if it comes through.) I can send it to another email address if you like.
Our mutual friend Mary Marsden suggested I contact you to let you know that Bill Plotkin will be offering an evening talk and one-day intensive in Boulder June 12-13 at the Starhouse, called "Cultivating Visionary Leadership and Soul-infused Artistry in a Time of Global Change." I've posted the event on this site if you want more information. If it feels right to you, please let your friends know about it.
I can also email you a flyer if you want to send to folks outside of the Transitions network.
Mary says hi. I've also been training with AVI for several years. I'll be at the event, look forward to connecting with you sometime.
He mentioned a big event being planned August 15 and 16th, perhaps you already mentioned that.First day at Chautauqua and the location on the second day not yet determined.
Thanks David. It was good to come and see what you all are doing - it all sounds great. I do know Andy through the CRC and ReSource where I used to work. I'll be in contact with him. I'll also try to make it this Sunday and see what you are doing with the NSA work.
Thanks!
