Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Am an initiating member of Transition Town Lyons, certified in Permaculture with Bill Mollison and before that with Dawn Shiner. 25 year contribution to the Bioregional Congresses, 3 years contributing to NYC's Civic Alliance to bring Permaculture Life Cycle performance metrics to Ground Zero's rebuild, friendship with Thomas Berry, meeting Helena Norberg Hodge, Vandana Shiva, Kirk Sale, Hazel Henderson, working in Bella Abzug's early 90's WEDO in her 'Women for a healthy environmental NYC' group slipped me into the Transition Movement. I've written 11 books capsulizing early works of David Abram, Paul Hawken, Chellis Glendinning, Thomas Berry, Stephanie Mills, Sunryu Suzuki, David Korten..., published two assembling books in 1992 and 2003 on Visioning Pemaculture Systems, published 60 books with my Water Mark Press, TIKYSK Press and W Space press since 1987 of my maverick eco-based writings and art, giving entry to transition methods and principles. My publishing name has now morphed to Water Mark of Lyons PPP: papers, press and permaculture.

Transition has the ideal community/village/town/city scale and cooperative philosophy (us + them) that no prior initiative has been able to organize on large scale into practical from visioning mode. I'm committed to impart my Bioregional experience with ceremonial village scale of living into our local communities to give Transition the visibility to its ancestral base it draws from.

Am in a steep curve to immerse my Local Governing bodies in Bioregional Permaculture Resilience. I've presented to Lyons' Planning commission (PCDC) and Board of Trustees (BOT), was appointed to the Sustainable Futures Commission (SFC) where Permaculture restoring town water systems is earmarked for a 5 year project, sit on the Boulder County Sustainable Energy Group, team teach the Willow Way PDC course for Permaculture certification, and meet individually with local and Transition people and groups. Our initiating team is in flux, elders, children and food groups after more than a year of encouraging attendance to many films, talks, open Space programs, and a summer-full of inner Transition Be-In's thanking of our gardens and confluence of rivers. We are now embarking on inviting new initiating members to train for new leadership roles, with a new interested group of younger folks who have the dynamic for Permaculture and town leadership.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am a catalyst, Was in NYC to influence Bloomberg's New Model Sustainable City PlaNYC direction until 2004. Since 2006 I have instructed Permaculture one on one with Lyons town-folks. Transition popped in enthusiastically with a presentation by Michael Brownlee and has been helping our economic downturned environment seek more sustainable community roots. Am again a catalyst! As SuperSkyWoman in the art & poetry world, I am observant, objective, hovering, listening to others offer their own answers with their own seeds of skills and old knowledge.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
Am Permaculture certified, currently sit on the Bioregional Biocouncil to bring the next Continental Bioregional Congress forward, doing outreach to improve water systems, soil improvement, water retention, growing my own food, starting up winter gardens at low cost, and experimenting making bisque pots as alternate to drip irrigation.

I am a master papermaker, am skilled to create a community cottage industry. I have trained other artists to create their own papermaking studios.

I am interested in starting a first 'Value Added', School with the help of Jerome Osentowski, who started the first CSA school in 1980, designing this idea on Lyons' future map, and am still helping along our one year public process to revamping the Lyons Comp Plan as more Sustainable in practice.

I had 17 years responsibility operating an industrial kitchen in the 60-70s, introducing the use of fresh farm produce. This food service knowledge may be needed in a future community centered kitchen.

Since late 70s have published my Water Mark Press, W-Space press, and TIKYSK Press poetry and artist-books, many made by hand in-house in small editions.

Am an internationsl practicing poet, land artist and art-performer, bringing the avant garde and ecological ways into all I do. I practice many inner healing skills and reiki, and help people with emergency healing techniques.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I can fill ongoing changing roles, and be advisor in a number of Transition core groups.

Transforming Dead Ends into Food Gardens: Answer to "Too late? Why scientists say we should expect the worst"

We've all long learned in Permaculture how to build a lush garden with sheet mulch on concrete and on tables in a street's dead end.

Hold this Image.

Insert Transition solutions to dead ends: Become Food Safe and Resilient, design our local Energy Descent Plans, our Plans for Catastrophe, Great Unleashings, roll out new currencies.

Put a Transition mark on every dead end. Go to the stopping places in articles you read. In this article by David Adam, Dec 9, 2008, Too late? Why scientists say w… Continue

Flowforms drawn in the Transition Event Moment

I've started uploading the flowforms drawn while transition events are in process. I particularly like to connect one's thought to another's thought, nesting them to see the interconnections and dependencies, what comes out of what, where can it go, does it lie low or rise high.

It is useful to see how conversations, discussions, open space brainstorming, decisions are moment by moment affected by each other's tellings, drawn visually or many time just as lists, on a large board, or on small st… Continue

Hazel Henderson: Redesigning Money Systems to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

This post is dear to my heart. I remember an exchange with Hazel Henderson high up overlooking the East River near the UN in 1998. We met via a common friend and exchanged our books. She gave me her Creating Alternative Futures: The end of Economics, Kumarian Press 1996, I gave her my Permaculture Getting to Know You: SuperSkyWoman Dialogues with the People TIKYSK Press 1998. Her inscription in my book reads, To Coco Go who knows all this! I loved your "taste of Permaculture" and meeting you. We… Continue

Nice to have you comment.
are you aware that I am the author of Healthy Money Healthy Planet - developing sustainability through new money systems? I am particularly thrilled to see David Korten now putting emphasis on an unstainable money system. Most of the green economist worldwide have now understood this and we can only progress once we know what is pushing the growth imperative. And the variety of community currencies that can be invented is endless. Good luck in your search and your action.
