How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Growing our own veggies; member with my husband of a CSA; canning veggies, fruit, and berries growing on our land and from the CSA; arranging to donate part of our lot to community gardens; making documentaries on this topic; I have produced and hosted community-access TV programs on this and related topics; trying to interest our kids and friends in this movement through conversation and films.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Through reading, reflection, and discussion,my husband and I had come to the conclusion that the stereotypical American lifestyle was essentially unfulfilling and ultimately unsustainable. I have been recycling (continuously) and growing veggies and canning food (off and on) since the 1970s, composting since the mid-80s, using alternative methods for commuting since 1979, and trying to live within the natural limits of the planet since 1970. I'm interested in the Transition movement because I think my children and grandchildren will only be able to live on Earth if fundamental and radical changes in our economic and social structures are made by individuals now.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
Gardening, composting, canning, knitting, crocheting, a background in weather research, documentary filmmaking, experience in producing and hosting a magazine-style show on CCTV54, community access TV in east Boulder County.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I am interested in spreading the word through film--by filming talks and making them available on DVD, and by making original documentaries that publicize various aspects of this topic. My husband and I have also provided videos to the Community Access station serving east Boulder County.
A potluck!-good food and good talk!-sounds like a plan Margaret! Can't wait until you're back! My best to you up in Boulder, hoping you feel better each day!
Have you ever wondered if it could be done? Can you create a greenhouse that needs NO supplemental heating year round? – the answer is yes!! This greenhouse design, involving stored water as thermal mass and our bountiful Colorado sun, can be used w…
I can only speak to my own experience. For most of my life I took the lead from my father and his cohorts in developing my worldview. When he died (a personal catastrophe), I took a few years to examine every aspect of my life -- including my values…
Hi Paul,
Sorry for the delayed response. Life got way too busy in December. I'm out of town right now but will be back by January 1st. I'll call you to discuss what we did at the library and to see what we all can cultivate for 2010 in Colorado :)
