Hi Zev
I hear what you are saying. We in Lyons Transition Town tried to get a workshop going to go chapter by chapter in the Handbook in our steering committee, but after the first enthusiasm of preparations, got right into action plans and have little meeting time left to do this basic work. getting us all on the same home plate. I am wondering if we do go through the Transition Handbook together here, then more people can be part of this exercise together. I for one have made extensive comments in the pages and margins adding my own ideas which connect to those presented, along with f=directions to myself to apply this & that to immediate contacts with my town Board and Economic Development council that wants sustainability throughout all its sub committees, but does not have the skills to do this.

So if we can pull it off to direct our energies to going through the book together, it will do several functions at once, including feed into the re-writing of this very handbook being done at this very moment by others of us in Transition. I haven't yet joined that group.
So I would enjoy acting on your suggestion. I will invite Sapan Rinpoche into this discussion, he was the Lyons TT steering group person who tried to get a workshop going. let's also put this call out onto other of the Transition groups, such as the facilitators group and permaculture groups and our own town and school groups.
Cheers/
COCO

Greetings!

I am curious what skill training is being considered for this group. I would suggest that we all need to read the Handbook and then get together to ask and answer questions with each other.

Thoughts?

I would love this! Every target audience needs its own tweaks - this would give us an opportunity to come together to refine a presentation, that has some kind of balance between content and un-selling (versus sales pitch!) smoothness, understatement and piqued interest that disturbs yet attracts others to contribute positive vision and make inspired action plans, the way Michael Brownlee has been able to do for us entering Transition.

Cheers, Coco

Hello all!

I have had the good fortune of being a presenter over the past 18 years to assist groups interested in starting cohousing communities around the country. I would be happy to take that experience and use it to begin speaking and training others how to speak in front of groups interested in Transition topics.
I support the idea of meeting as a group after the election to see what make the most sense. Either in person preferably, or via conference call.

Since am already trying to be a liason between our Lyons Transition, Lyons' Sustainable Futures Committee, and the various committees of the Economic Development Council (EDC) which will by January advise the Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT), I could learn by listening in to what you all are doing here as speakers.

Any word on a conference call meeting on the 6th or 14th? Both dates are clear for me so far. Using www.meetingwizard.com might be a great (free) way to set up a meeting time that most of us can attend.

I would love to get together and brainstorm some FAQ and practice answering tough questions. I will be giving my first presentation in Indiana on Oct 17th! I would like to give at least one practice presentation to a group before then... not much time...
