Join me to discuss chapters 1-6 of The Transition Handbook.
We will be meeting at Buzz Coffee in Longmont on October 18,
Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
You can get sample readings of the book on books.google.com.
Bring one of your favorite books for suggested reading, too.
See you there!

Thanks for checking everything out, Josh! If nothing pans out, should we try for Monday, July 13 at the Longmont library?

Growthbusters July 12 Venue Selection - almost there!

So we visited 3 sites today (all were locked/closed on a Monday)...Firestations #3 and #5, and Izaak Walton Clubhouse. I'm visiting one last venue tomorrow before work, the Longmont Museum.

Thus far, Station #5 on Barberry off of Nelson seems like a great option! Lots of parking, pretty centralized location, good meeting facilities, restrooms right outside the meeting room.

#3 on Pace is a bit far outside of town, very VERY little parking (16 slots) but the room seems pretty nice (I could peek in through the windows at all of it).

The Clubhouse has a central location, but again not much parking and per Teresa, with the high ceiling it echoes.

Pictures are in the Photos tab above tagged with "uscolm" or click the link below. We should try and make our final decision no later than Wednesday so Dave can finish the flyer, we can post and advertise it.

I am posting this from the events page:

The E Center has made "friends" (organizationally) with the OUR Center (303 Atwood) in Longmont (we hosted and event there and have volunteered to help in their kitchen). Their ground and maintenance manager contacted me for help getting the garden they have their ready for growing this Spring (the food goes to serve OUR Center clients).

Specifically, he needs help tilling and weeding THIS WEEKEND (both days ideally). I have been trying to drum up some student support/hands to help them out, but unfortunately this weekend is the first weekend of finals. We have exams Saturday as well as preparing for more exams in the upcoming week, so I haven't had any luck getting support.

I was hoping that Transition Longmont would have some volunteers that could help them out. Rick is the hospitality manager (in charge of the garden as well) and his email is hospmgr@ourcenter.org. Please contact him with details if you do have willing volunteers and PLEASE let me know too.

THANK YOU so much,

Will TL have a booth at the Longmont Farmer's Market going foward? I'll be there working at our Ollin Farm booth - anxious to see TL there...weather won't be stellar tomorrow but will still be nice to be out :-)

Excellent News:
Just out of nowhere, Transition Westminster/Arvada/Broomfield leader, Margaret Emerson, invited me to attend with her CO Leg. ad hoc “Listening Committee” this morning from 7:30 to 8:30 at the State Capitol. We got to explain some very important concepts to the Legislators present, including Peak Oil, Permaculture, Energy Decline, etc. It was short, but VERY sweet. I need to look up the actual names, but the legislators there were: Jerry, Wes, Zena, Kent Lambert. I'll work on filling in the names as I have time. I got to brag about Transition Longmont's "several community gardens that are all fully spoken for this growing season." Congratulations to all of you. ... Don

Transition Longmont Outreach at Arbor Day event

Does anyone see any value in trying to get Dave Gardner of Growthbusters.com (he's based down in the Springs I think) up here to do some talks for Transition Longmont and/or Transition Boulder?

I came across his site, work and documentary via a link on Orion's website and their article "The Gospel of Consumption", super well written by Jeffrey Kaplan....

http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/2962

Dave is working on completing his documentary, "Hooked on Growth"...trailer is at his website:
http://www.growthbusters.com/

I think the stellar work ALL the folks here in the Transition Movement is wonderful...I'm just wondering however to get a larger majority of the general public on board, they need to see the roots of our global/environmental issues, peak oil, failing economies...a major linchpin to all of it is our "love" of consumerism in this country since the 30's...and now spreading to all corners of the world.

Does anyone else see some value in trying to contact Mr. Gardner to see if we could get him up here for a couple presentations in Boulder County?

Thanks!
