Dear Jessica,
Just One More Thing as Rachel Maddox says on her show. Because you are a student and working on social movements, I am willing to go far deeper into your study and questions and resource you with other people around a focused question and answer format r if you email me directly as there is too much detail for the transition group blog, thanks forrestecraver@gmail.com www.cravercreativeservices.com

Adding on to Michael's article about Bill Clinton's comments about Will Allen of Growing Power, remember that Will Allen will be in Denver teaching about his methods on Nov. 14-15. Check out www.feeddenver.com for details and to sign up for the workshop. There's an early bird special going on right now.

Hi!
I am hoping someone can help me- I am flying from Ireland to Denver at the end of September. I would really like to offset this flight in some way- symbolically if nothing else. Basically, while there, I want to either adopt trees or alternatively, purchase a number of trees (fruit trees, etc) that I can then pass on to a local resident/group that would be willing to plant and take care of them. Unfortunately, I am only in the Denver for a week so I am low on available time. But would love to hear from some interested parties!

Thanks,
Catherine

HI, All. Speaking of wonderful local produce, just wanted to make sure you all knew that Will Allen (MacArthur Genius Grant award-winner from Growing Power in Milwaukee) will be doing a weekend workshop on Nov. 14th&15th. The workshop is on urban farming year round through the method of hoop houses. It promises to be a wonderful weekend. Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks,
Val Stepien

David, I love the beautiful tomato photo from your Broomfield garden. I just took a photo of 3 cups of cherry tomatoes from my backyard garden. My first ever successful garden. It's wonderful!!

A Denver organization called Health Care for All Colorado (HCAC) recognizes the economic challenges threatening our health care insurance options. On the Topic-Talk Walks (TTW) calendar, is an opportunity to share a picnic and walking group conversation in Washington Park with the president of HCAC, Irene Aguilar, M.D., as well as Colorado State Senator Joyce Foster, and Fred Grover, Jr., M.D. If you and others in our Transition Denver group would like to share this dialogue in the beautiful setting of Washington Park, please RSVP for this free TTW calendar event at http://www.meetup.com/Topic-Talk-Walks-Denver-Metro/calendar/11188839/.

Points by James Kunstler @ http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/Archives2009/KunstlerMay18.html :

There are plenty of things you can state about the economy past and future with some confidence right now:

-- Cheap energy is over and our wishes for alt.energy are currently inconsistent with reality, meaning we have to live differently.

-- We have to downscale and re-localize our major economic activities: food production, commerce and manufacturing, banking, schooling, etc.

-- We can't hope to have a stable money system unless we allow a workout of unpayable debt to proceed.

-- Even if we can do this, universal easy credit is a thing of the past. From now on, we have to save for the things we want and run our businesses and households on accounts receivable.

-- Major demographic shifts are inevitable as it becomes necessary to let go of suburbia and reactivate our derelict towns and smaller cities (and allow our giant metroplexes to contract).

-- We have to face the truth that our major social contracts cannot be met, namely the continuation of social security as we know it and probably all pension arrangements. We'll probably have to change household arrangements to make up for these losses.

-- Health care will have to go through a revolution more comprehensive than just changing how we pay for it. Like everything else, it will have to downscale, re-localize, and become more rigorous.

A new suburb in Germany has eliminated cars from within city-limits. I hope you enjoy the article!

Hi Transition Denver!

My name is Candice. I am graduating from Naropa University this May and have bought a house in Denver. I have been roaming around Denver neighborhoods transforming lawns into gardens this year. My farm is called Urbiculture Front Yard Farms. Our mission is to bring the rural life to the city by growing food sustainably, naturally keeping honey bees and building community with people from all walks of life. Organic food is so expensive so with the generosity of Denver residents letting me use their yards to grow food I cut out the cost of transportation and owning land which means Denver gets amazing organic food for cheap! I am looking for volunteers, CSA (community supported agriculture) members who will get a bag of fresh produce delivered to them on a weekly basis, and people to help me generate ideas on how to get this food to the people who need it most.

Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all!! This is your farm.

Please contact me with questions or to get started on being apart of the urban revolution!
