David Ward has aquired 1000 perennials (herbs and others) and he is offering them to us for planting in our gardens at the grange and the presbyterian church. I'll was at his house at 8AM to help document the plants available and pick up, say, 50 or so. Anyone want to come out and help plant them tomorrow afternoon? Or on Tuesday which I have off? You can also buy some for home, if you want, at $1.00 each. Contact David Ward at davidward@nice-world.org.

You are all invited to share a Tuesday, July 14, from 1 to 5 PM collaborative potluck and tour of the DBG at Chatfield with Mt. Loretto Community Housing, Topic-Talk Walks, and Random Acts of Kindness.

I have posted pictures of 4 of the 5 Community Gardens in Broomfield. The 5th garden is at the Crescent Grange. I posted pictures of the Grange, but not their garden. Hope you all enjoy.

I spent an hour this evening trimming off all the bulb heads that grew on the top of my garlic plants (there must have been at least 150 of these) and distributing them to my neighbors as I walked the dog. It was nice to share the surplus, meet more people, and reinforce the neighborly bonds with those that I have known for a few years now. Anyone else sharing the wealth?

Visit the Transition Colorado calendar. There's a new inspirational calendar event for this coming Monday, June 15, beginning at 6:00 PM. You are invited to a collaborative Transition Colorado, Topic-Talk Walks, and Mount Loretto Community Garden inspiration for community gardeners in the Denver Botanic Gardens. Our inspirational walk in the DBG will include a short visit with the curator of the American Selection Garden who is also a DBG Senior Horticulturist, and the leader of the new DBG Community - Maria Bumgarner.

I hope you'll have an opportunity to share the inspiration with us.

piggy-backing off of the veggie swap... good idea! also, switching who grows what each season is a good idea too! It's a good way to achieve crop rotation. Larger land allows It allows for the ability to crop rotate easily, there is more distance between crops. prevent pests from migrating, to prevent weeds specific to certain vegetables from growing. It is tough to do this in your own back yard, one fence to the other isn't usually enough room to move crops. If I grow lettuce, broccoli etc. one year, while you grow squashes and beans, then the next year we swap, we make certain organic farming methods easier to practice, as well as more successful. Not a bad! I have discussed this with my friend, but it would be nice to get a few people on the street, or in my local community to make this all happen. What about starting a veggie swap? A handful of spinach for a few eggs? Apples for pears? My mother told me about one that just started where she lives (Mill Valley) and it seems to be successful right away.
