What you choose to eat is the single most important thing you do for--or against--the environment. As Wendell Berry has written, "Eaters must understand that eating takes place inescapably in the world, that it is inescapably an agricultural act, and that how we eat determines, to a considerable extent, how the world is used."
Join us in a discussion of food choices that cause the least harm to the planet, the creatures on it, and our health.
Panelists include:
Kate Lawrence, a writer and longtime activist on food and other environmental issues, is the author of The Practical Peacemaker: How Simple Living Makes Peace Possible (Lantern Books, 2009). She is a reference librarian with the Denver Public Library and past president of the Vegetarian Society of Colorado.
Keith Akers is the coordinator of Denver Energy Awareness. He is the author of A Vegetarian Sourcebook: The Nutrition, Ecology, and Ethics of a Natural Foods Diet (Putnam's, 1983) and The Lost Religion of Jesus: Simple Living and Nonviolence in Early Christianity (Lantern Books, 2000).
Adam Brock is a Denver native and Transition Denver member that runs The Wild Green Yonder, a permaculture design and consultation group. He believes in humane and sustainable animal husbandry, and tries to eat meat only on special occasions.
